College of Engineering Two in a Row

The College of Engineering once again proved true to their tag line “We don’t just exist; we dominate!” by besting eight other college and department teams in the 2008 Intramural Games which opened on September 8, 2008 at the Recoletos 4th Centennial Gymnasium with the theme, “Sebastinians Strengthening Ties through Sports.” Garnering a total of 172 points, the team had the best finish followed by the College of Nursing with 142 points at second, and the Computer Studies Department with 119 points at third.  As the back-to-back winner, the College of Engineering needs only one more win to get the Fr. Victor Lluch perpetual trophy and cash incentive of P10,000.00.

After being in the third spot in the last National Collegiate Athletics Association-South (NCAA-S), the SSC-R table tennis team proved that they have what it takes to be champions.

30 years ago, I marched with my classmates for our graduation ceremony in the chapel of the main campus of San Sebastian College-Recoletos.  An inspirational talk, that basically discussed about life after college and how to get a job, was delivered to us.  Some of my batchmates who were interested listened to it well.  However, a lot of us were chatting, staring on the wall, and some were sleeping.  Why was it so? Was it because the speaker was not good?  Was it because the topic was quite boring?  No, because a lot of my batchmates were working then with the Philippine Navy and the Philippine Air Force in Sangley Point and Cavite Naval Base.  A number of us were even retired U.S. Armed Forces personnel who availed the education benefits of the US Government.  I was a working student too.  As mentioned in the introduction about myself, I was working for the Philippine Navy Computer Center.  Hence, why did we aspire to finish our courses in San Sebastian College?  There were two reasons.  First, to upgrade ourselves in our workplace or acquire greater competence in order to make ourselves qualified for another better job.  Second, to become better persons, for our families and the communities where we came from.

    Teachers from the grade school, high school, college, and graduate levels were honored in the 1st Institutional Teacher’s Day celebration of the SSC-R de Cavite, which was held last January 29, at the Main Campus.

It was a first.

    The opening-day Concelebrated Mass on February 13 was presided by Most Reverend Cirilio M. Almario DD, retired Bishop of Bulacan. The homilist, Rev Fr. Efren De Guzman, SVD kept the attention of the Sebastinian community with his engaging style of preaching.

    A total of six couples participated in a mass wedding ceremony during the 42nd Foundation Day celebration of SSC-R de Cavite. These were Mr. and Mrs. Joel Lopez, Mr and Mrs Ceadesar de Jumo, Mr. and Mrs. Jacinto Sarueda, Mr. and Mrs Jarlie Villaflor, and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Vicente. The couples are security and maintenance personnel of the school who have been married in civil ceremonies between three and twenty-five years.

    Sebastian organization and private businesses set up shop at the Go Negosyo 2 bazaar as a regular feature of the foundation day celebration.

    Jollibee, McDonald’s Dunkin Donuts and Purefoods were among the outsider participants of the bazaar. Mount Sea Resort handed out free ticket for swimming pool use to individuals who were willing to supply the said company with some personal information. Other external individuals and organization bazaar participants were Gizter.Com, Angie’s Accessories, Angie’s Snacks and Sophie Martin Philippines, Inc.

The best among the best!

From among the thousands of Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) in the Philippines offering IT courses, Cisco Learning Institute (CLI) USA singled out San Sebastian College-Recoletos de Cavite, Inc.

Religious administrators of SSC-R de Cavite, Rev. Fr. Joseph D. Granada, OAR and Rev. Fr. Enrico A. Silab, OAR, obtained their postgraduate titles at the end of academic years 2007-2008.

    San Sebastian College – Recoletos de Cavite celebrated 42 years of quality Christian education with the theme “Looking Back, Looking Up, and Looking Beyond.” Rev. Fr. Jonathan G. Caballero, OAR, the Executive Producer for the celebration, said that the theme was timely because as the institution has begun to recognize the value of its relationship with the alumni, the alumni has started to realize their duty to their Alma Mater.
