June 24 marked the day when the Supreme Student Council together with the RC-Community Outreach Office, the College of Arts and Sciences, the students of National Service and Training Program, the Students of Sciences and the City Government’s Committee on Environment joined forces in a Walk for a Cause and Tree Planting Activity. The event started at 7:00 A.M. with a parade from the SSCR-dC Main Campus to Samonte Park. It was participated in by more than 520 NSTP students and more than 130 representatives from the different major student organizations.
The activity was a fitting culmination to the SSC’s ECO-Week and the
RC-COP’s environmental advocacy. The objectives of raising the level
awareness in the care for the environment and a concrete action to
ensure a more balanced co-existence of man and nature were both achieved
in this undertaking.

Last July 16, Dugo Ko Buhay Mo 5 (so that others may live) has once again outdid what it gained December of last year. This time, the single unit of Red Cross Bleeders produced 178 bags of 450ml compared to the two units of Bleeders that produced 198 bags. The 178 bags of precious blood is equivalent to 712 components of blood that could help save lives of the significant others. This is CARITAS from the ranks of students at its best! But it is also this year that we had the most number of participants from the ranks employees. Perhaps, it is because they knew how this single selfless act could affect other people’s lives. It is also significant that we were able to entice parents and outsiders to be a part of this activity.

On Tuesday, July 27, 2010, SSC-R de Cavite welcomed Reverend Father Virgilio “Virgil” Mediana Paredes, OAR, who will be replacing Fr. Vincent S. Cadeliña, OAR as the new Campus Ministry Director.
Born on February 17, 1975, Fr. Virgil is the third of twelve children
hailed at Basak, Pardo, Cebu City. He earned the designation “Jr” being
the eldest son of the family.
Quite a sportsman, Fr. Virgil, plays badminton, basketball, tennis, and
adept with the Filipino sports “arnis.” He can also play piano and can
carry a tune, having a naturally mellow voice.
Fr. Virgil’s choice of vocation came early in life. He was a graduating
high school student at USJ-R Cebu City when he decided he wants to
become a priest. His childhood years were filled with many memories of
going to church regularly with his mother, and with his aunt, a faith
healer. In the beginning, between his parents, his father, a radio and
television drama writer, was more supportive of his decision. He vividly
remembers going to the Recoletos formation center in Baguio, armed with
only P2,500.00, part of his reward money for bagging the National
Discipline Award in high school.
