Miss Earth 2017 Candidates visit SSC-RdC

    CAVITE CITY - Miss Earth 2017 Candidates visited the Cañacao and Main Campuses of San Sebastian College-Recoletos de Cavite (SSCRdC) last October 12, 2017. Miss Elian Qupty (Israel), Miss Abby Sturgin (New Zealand), Miss Paweensuda Drouin (Thailand), and Miss Nabirye Josephine Mutesi (Uganda) came together with Miss Earth Philippines Water 2017, Jessica Marasigan.

    The students of the Basic Education Department together with Rev Fr. James Dexter R. Tanquis, OAR, Basic Education Director, Faculty and Staff welcomed the candidates at the Cañacao Campus. The Miss Earth Candidates had a dating game where they asked environmental awareness related questions. The winner had the chance to have a selfie picture with the candidates. Afterwards, the candidates proceeded to the ribbon cutting ceremony of the Miss Earth Eco Walk where they planted ornamental plants as a symbol of the commitment of SSC-RdC and Miss Earth to taking care of the environment.

    At around 11:30 AM, the candidates went to the Main Campus for a courtesy call with Rev. Fr. Cristituto A. Palomar, OAR, President, together with the other Religious and Lay Administrators of the school. During the courtesy call, Fr. Palomar cited the similarities and dedication of the both SSC-RdC and Miss Earth in promoting environmental awareness. The candidates also visited the SSC-RdC garden and looked at the trees that were planted a year ago by Miss Palestine, Miss Denmark, Miss Lebanon, Miss Belize, Miss Hungary, Miss Nepal and Miss Mauritius. “We are not just faces, we work really hard, and we want people to learn from us and we want to be the best role models as we can,” said Miss New Zealand.

    SSC-RdC will be providing the software and computers that will be used for the coronation night on November 4, 2017 at the Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City. The software was developed by the ICT Office. SSC-RdC will also award a scholarship grant to a nominee of Carousel Productions. A representative from SSC-RdC will also be a judge in the evening gown competition on October 26, 2017 at Versailles Palace, Alabang.

    The candidates enjoyed their visit especially the tree planting activity. Meanwhile Miss New Zealand and Miss Thailand enjoyed their first bite of banana-que, bananas (saba) fried and coated with brown sugar. “I have a sweet tooth,” said Miss Thailand, “Me too!,” seconded Miss New Zealand.
