OFFERINGS

San Sebastian College Recoletos de Cavite , Preschool and Grade School Departments advocate salient features of the non-graded system of instruction:

GROUPINGS

In the non-graded system of instruction , the learners are grouped within the level or across grade level, according to their interest and/or ability. The learner begins where he is and moves forward as he is able. The learner advances at his own pace as the teacher continuously plans and arranges the learning environment in accordance to the learner’s needs. The system is free of rigid structures such as fixed ability groupings and retention.

In grouping for instruction, both the needs of each child and the group as a whole are considered. The facilitator chooses a grouping strategy appropriate to the situation at hand to ensure highest potential learning. Groupings are flexible, focusing on each learner’s needs, at the same time recognizing the fact that more than one learner may have the same needs.

NO RETENTION SCHEME

The non-graded system advocates the no retention scheme. Learners experiencing difficulties, particularly in Math and Reading are grouped according to their ability. Groupings are not fixed. Learners may advance to the next higher group or go down lower, depending on the results of the formative tests. Learners who experiences difficulty and are unable to finish skills intended for the level are given extension period to complete such.
